DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, June 4. A total of 265,100 foreign tourists visited Tajikistan from January through March 2024, which is 26.8 percent more than in the same period of 2023, Trend reports.
Data from the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of Tajikistan indicates that 22,000 tourists came from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), while 243,100 came from CIS countries.
In total, 326,000 foreign citizens visited Tajikistan in the first quarter of 2024. Of these, the majority came from Uzbekistan—222,000 people. Russia is the second-largest country with 70,600 visitors, followed by Kazakhstan with 7,400 visitors.
Among the countries not part of the CIS, most tourists came from China (5,500 people) and Türkiye (2,700 people).
To note, Tajikistan was visited by nearly 1.358 million foreign citizens in 2023. Out of this number, 1.256 million people, or 92.5 percent, were from CIS countries, and 101,833 people, or 7.5 percent, were from other countries. Among the total number of foreign citizens visiting Tajikistan, 1.201 million were tourists, which is 201,000 tourists, or 20.2 percent more than in 2022.
