DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 21. A total of 281.9 tons of silk cocoon were produced in Tajikistan in the first five months of 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Agency on Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, this output is 1.6 times higher than the same period last year.
During the reporting months, Khatlon region's farms produced 180.1 tons, Sughd region's farms produced 76.1 tons, and districts of republican subordination produced 25.7 tons.
To note, the country operates under the "Program for the Development of Sericulture and Cocoon Processing Industries in Tajikistan for 2020-2024."
The main goal of this program is to create conditions and foundations for the sustainable development of the sericulture and cocoon processing industries using local raw materials. It aims to ensure employment, develop economic mechanisms, and provide incentives to attract direct investment into the sector.
