BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. Iran's exports of iron ore pellets and concentrates amounted to 8.63 million tons for the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024), with a total value of $695 million.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Association of Steel Producers shows that during the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024), Iran exported iron ore pellets and concentrates at 12 percent lower value and 8 percent higher weight than last year (March 21–September 22, 2023).
According to statistics, Iran produced about eight million tons of iron ore pellets and concentrates worth $761 million during six months, (from March 21 through September 22, 2023).
Meanwhile, the statistics note that Iran's exports of iron ore pellets amounted to 5.38 million tons worth $454 million for six months. This compared to the same period last year decreased in value terms by 1.9 percent, and increased in weight terms by 16 percent. Iran's exports of iron ore pellets totaled 4.62 million tons worth $463 million during the same period last year.
Moreover, the statistics added that Iran's iron ore concentrate exports were 3.24 million tons worth $241 million during the six months. This is 19 percent less in value and four percent less in weight compared to the same period last year. Whereas Iran exported 3.36 million tons of iron ore concentrate worth $298 million in the same period last year.
Though Iran has potential to produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate per year, it produces on average about 50 million tons of iron ore pellets per year.
To note, Iran's exports of iron ore pellets and concentrates during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) amounted to about 17.2 million tons valued at $1.7 billion. During the last Iranian year, iron ore pellets and concentrate exports from Iran increased by 125 percent in value and 160 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
