The exploration activities recently commenced, with a special
event held on May 9 to celebrate the occasion at the 29th Iran
International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition in
Tehran.
The event was attended by Iran's Minister of Petroleum, Mohsen
Paknejad, the Executive Director of the National Iranian Oil
Company (NIOC), Hamid Bovard, and other high-ranking officials.
Iran's North Drilling Company has commenced drilling in the
Caspian Sea's 18th block, known as the "Rudsar" reservoir, at a
depth of 70 meters. The drilling is expected to reach a depth of
5,077 meters and is being carried out for the purpose of evaluating
the "Rudsar" reservoir.
Iran's last exploration in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea
took place in 1997. After repairs to the Amir-Kabir platform, the
exploration activities have now resumed under the close attention
of the Ministry of Petroleum.
Iran had suspended deep-water drilling in the Caspian Sea in
2014.
