Iran’s major state-run iron ore companies, affiliated with Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), produced about 7.71 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first two months of the current fiscal year (March 20 – May 21).
The companies’ output figure indicates a 27-percent increase compared to the preceding year, IMIDRO said in a statement June 19.
The companies produced about 38.341 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 2018.
Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co. ranked first producing 3.02 million tons in the 2-month period, followed by Chadormalou with 1.46 million tons of output.
Markazi (913, 723 tons), Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company-MIDHCO (1.02 million tons), Gohar Zamin (737,458 tons), Sangan (448,141 tons) and Jalal Abad (115,353 tons) stood at the next places.
The report didn’t include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which produce a total of 14 million tons of iron ore annually.
Also 875,723 tons of Iron ore granules were produced by the aforementioned companies in the 2-month period, 13 percent less year-on-year.
Sangan was the largest Iron ore granule producer with 389,484 tons of output, followed by Markazi (232,170 tons), Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Co (165,230 tons), Jalal Abad (36,951 tons), Mishdavan (27,574 tons) and Chadormalou (24,314 tons).
The Islamic Republic exported exported $984.2 million worth of iron ore in last fiscal year.
Iran’s total iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
