BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Iran totally exported 1,000 tons of agricultural products worth $1.5 million to Russia and Iraq via the Aras Free Trade Zone in the East Azerbaijan Province located in the northwest of Iran during the first seven days of the current Iranian year (March 21-28, 2025), Deputy CEO of Aras Free Trade Zone Ebrahim Jalili told reporters, Trend reports.
He said that several simplifications and reductions of bureaucratic obstacles in the Aras Free Trade Zone have given impetus to the export of products from the zone. Thus, the release of products from the zone has been reduced to a minimum time. This has attracted the consent of manufacturers and is considered a fundamental factor in the development of non-oil product exports.
Jalili also said that in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 202,5 through March 20, 2026), the goal is to increase the export of agricultural products from the Aras Free Trade Zone. It is expected that there will be an increase in product exports with the expansion of support projects and transport infrastructure.
“Considering that the Aras Free Trade Zone has Iran’s largest hydroponic greenhouse and has the potential for growing agricultural and greenhouse products, the simplification of trade between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union will boost production and exports in the zone,” he pointed out.
To note, during the first nine months of the last Iranian year (from March 20 through December 20, 2024), products worth $146 million were exported via Aras Free Trade Zone.
On December 25, 2023, a free trade agreement was signed between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in St. Petersburg, Russia. After the newly signed agreement's enforcement, trade turnover is projected to reach $18-20 billion within five-seven years.
On March 15, 2025, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the law on a free trade agreement between Iran and the EAEU to various circles in Iran for implementation.
