BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. Iran has proposed extending the electricity exchange agreement with Turkmenistan after its expiration, Trend reports.
This issue was discussed during a meeting between Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Tehran.
Within the framework of the meeting, it was proposed to sign a memorandum of understanding on the development of power lines and increasing technical cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting pointed out significant progress in the construction of the Mashhad-Mari third power line and the completion of its major part. The power line project is implemented for continuous upgrade of the power grid and increasing energy exchange.
Besides, the meeting mentioned that with the commissioning of this power line, the electricity exchange between Iran and Turkmenistan will increase significantly. This power line will also contribute to the development of regional cooperation and strengthen Iran's position in the energy market of Central Asia.
To note, the four-day 18th meeting of the Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission began in Tehran on May 17. The meeting is chaired by Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh and Meredov.
