The construction of the third runway at the new Istanbul Airport will be completed in 2020, Trend reports referring to Transport and Infrastructure Ministry of Turkey.
According to the ministry, the opening of the new runway at the airport will take place in June 2020.
A control tower will be commissioned in June 2020 at the Istanbul Airport.
The new runway will increase the capacity of Istanbul Airport to 120 aircraft per hour. Currently, the airport accepts up to 80 aircraft per hour.
The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.
The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
