BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. Azerbaijan exported 14,440 tons of hazelnuts worth $70.5 million from January through August 2023, Trend reports.
The data of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan shows that exports increased by 12 percent in value terms and by 24 percent in quantity compared to the same period last year.
In addition, Azerbaijan exported to Russia 7,390 of tons of hazelnuts (an increase of 64 percent) worth $34.1 million (an increase of 44 percent) during the reporting period, Germany - 2,340 tons (an increase of 40 percent) worth $13.2 million (an increase of 25 percent), Italy - 1,670 tons (down 56 percent) worth $9.3 million (a reduction of 60 percent), Switzerland - 780 tons (growth of 5.6 times) worth $4.7 million (growth of 4.4 times).
Azerbaijan has resumed the supply of hazelnuts to Israel (20 tons worth $110,000) and Estonia (22 tons worth $114,400).
The data of the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council for the 2022/2023 season shows that Azerbaijan ranks 4th among the world producers of hazelnuts.
Moreover, 24,000 tons of peeled hazelnuts were produced in Azerbaijan during the reporting period. The country's share in world production is four percent.
In general, the top three included Türkiye (415,300 tons - 71 percent), Italy (38,700 tons - seven percent), and the US (31,900 tons - five percent).
