ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 19. The large Chinese company China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has shown interest in the project to build new subway lines in Almaty, which was revealed during a meeting between the mayor of the southern capital, Erbolat Dossayev, and the chairman of CRCC, Dai Hegang, Trend reports
Dossayev emphasized that the expansion of the metro in the
shortest possible time is a priority for the city, and the
experience of Chinese companies instills confidence in the
successful implementation of any projects.
Hegang expressed readiness for cooperation in Kazakhstan, where the
company is already implementing projects worth $650 million. Both
parties agreed to continue discussions about potential future
cooperation.
This Chinese corporation (ranked 43rd in the Fortune Global 500)
uses over 700 tunnel boring machines for subway construction. A
branch of the corporation's key subsidiary, the 20th Bureau, has
been operating in Kazakhstan since 2015. CRCC, a heavyweight in the
construction arena, has a wealth of experience under its belt when
it comes to laying down railways and subways across China.
Earlier, Dossayev, discussed with the president of the China Exim Bank, Wang Chunying, the terms of financing major infrastructure projects and the expansion of the subway network in the southern capital. The construction of new subway lines in Almaty will require up to $1 billion in loans, and the Kazakh authorities are in talks with international institutions. It has also been reported that the Almaty city administration is preparing a project for building a subway line to the airport. To the west, after the Kalkaman station, the metro will be extended to the Barlyk market.
