ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 26. The Akimat (local government) of the North Kazakhstan region has announced the repair of the highway leading to the border with Russia’s Kurgan region, Trend reports.
Regional akim (governor) Gauyez Nurmukhambetov inspected the progress of the reconstruction work.
“The project has been delayed, so the key task now is to carry out active construction. A new contractor has already started repairs. By the end of this year, the new road to the border will be operational. This road will become an important link between the border regions and help develop the transit corridor, which will boost the development of transport logistics and tourism,” the akimat noted.
This highway leads to the “Zhanazhol” border crossing point, where reconstruction and modernization works are also set to begin in 2025. The project includes:
Construction of new buildings and facilities;
Organization of entry and exit lanes in separate directions;
Expansion to four traffic lanes;
Implementation of modern inspection systems;
Installation of lighting.
All these measures aim to enhance comfort for border crossers and significantly reduce the time required for border procedures, local authorities emphasized.
