BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 28. Azerbaijan exported 29,500 tons of sugar from January through June 2025, generating $21 million in revenue.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that sugar exports increased by 11,800 tons, or 66.7 percent, in volume and by $7.4 million, or 54.4 percent, in value compared to the same period last year. In the same period of the previous year (17,700 tons of sugar worth $13.6 million).
Sugar exports accounted for 0.16 percent of Azerbaijan's total exports and 1.2 percent of non-oil exports during the reporting period.
Azerbaijan conducted $24.4 billion worth of trade operations with foreign countries from January through June 2025, up by $2.63 billion or 12.1 percent year-on-year.
Of that, $12.8 billion accounted for exports and $11.5 billion for imports. While exports declined slightly by 0.2 percent, imports rose sharply by 29.9 percent.
Consequently, the foreign trade surplus narrowed to $1.35 billion, down threefold, or by $2.67 billion, compared to the same period last year.
