BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. Iran's agricultural trade deficit has decreased by $3 billion, Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said at a meeting attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Trend reports.
According to him, this figure decreased from $11 billion to $8 billion annually.
The minister also said that despite the water shortage in the country, agricultural exports increased by 10.6 percent.
The agricultural sector has been in difficult conditions due to drought for the past three years.
This year, drought rose by 41 percent compared to last year.
Nouri noted that, along with the increase in the production of red meat and sugar in the country, attention is also being paid to imports.
Iran is holding consultations with officials of this country regarding the import of red meat from Pakistan.
Spotlighting the country's wheat reserves this year, the Iranian minister said that 7.7 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in the country on a guaranteed basis so far.
The country's wheat reserves have been secured until the end of the current year (March 20, 2026).
Iran has also purchased and is currently importing wheat from Russia to ensure strategic reserves.
To remind, in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Iran exported 7.6 million tons of products worth $5.2 billion.
The agricultural exports grew by 29 percent in value and 11 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).
