BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Trade turnover through Iran’s Kurdistan province customs in western Iran increased by 3 percent in the first six months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through September 22, 2025), compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024), Faramarz Omidi, the province's customs office inspector, told local media, Trend reports.
Omidi reported that trade volume through the Kurdistan customs reached $3.32 billion. Exports during this period amounted to $383 million and 796,000 tons of goods, with $252 million and 600,000 tons declared and exported directly through Kurdistan customs. This represents a 10 percent increase in value and a 5 percent increase in weight compared to the same period last year. The remaining goods were declared at other provincial customs but passed through Kurdistan customs.
According to Omidi, 98.9 percent of the products exported through the province’s customs went to Iraq, with the remainder shipped to Russia, Afghanistan, and Türkiye.
Overall, Iran’s trade turnover for the six months reached $54.3 billion with 93.7 million tons of goods traded. Non-oil exports amounted to $25.9 billion and 75 million tons, marking a slight increase in value and a 6 percent rise in volume compared to last year.
The province is located in the western sector of Iran, within the geopolitical region identified as Iranian Kurdistan, which is primarily inhabited by Kurdish ethnic groups and shares a boundary with Türkiye.
