BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. Around 98,000 tons of tea leaves worth 20.8 trillion rials (about $37 million) have been purchased from Iranian farmers under a guaranteed procurement scheme since April 21, 2025, Head of Iran's Tea Organization (ITO), Habib Jahansaz, told reporters, Trend reports.
He noted that about 22,000 tons of dry tea have been produced from the purchased leaves, and roughly 90 percent of payments have already been made to farmers. Jahansaz emphasized that the quality of tea leaves this year has improved compared to the previous year, crediting both farmers’ dedication and supportive government policies for this progress.
Last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), Iran produced around 29,000 tons of dry tea from 22,000 hectares of cultivated land, valued at roughly 25 trillion rials (about $43 million).
