The Iranian Ports and Maritime Organisation will grant duty exemption to foreign shopping lines to encourage them to resume operations in Iran, IRNA reported on January 29.
The incentive will be given to the first three foreign shipping lines to start sending their fleets to the Iranian ports.
The duty exemption will be given just to ships which are heading from South East Asia or Europe toward Iran's Shahid Rajaee Port.
Iran's ports shipment capacity will reach 136 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20), the Tasnim News Agency quoted Iran's Ports and Maritime organisation head Mohammad Saeednejad as saying on January 24.
The figure is currently stands at 100 million tons, he said.
Shahid Rajaee port accounted for 87 percent of the total shipments during the first nine months of the current year, he said, adding that Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, and Khorramshahr ports ranked next.
More than 5.109 million tons of goods were transited via Iran's ports during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year, ISNA quoted Iranian Ports and Maritime Organisation official Sadollah Abdollahi as saying on Jan. 22.
The figure rose 23 percent compared to the same period last year, he added.
Imam Khomeini port accounted for 3.344 million tons of the transited goods, he noted.
