In Turkmenistan, at least 1,000 tons of iodine per year will be extracted in the future, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper wrote.
From January to September of this year, the Balkanabat, Bereket and Khazar enterprises being a part of the Turkmenkhimiya State Concern produced more than 379 tons of valuable raw materials, most of which were exported.
Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of reserves of this mineral and fifth in terms of its production. But in the near future, the situation may change radically, the message says.
In particular, the proposal of foreign companies to build at the location of "Khazar" plant of the high-tech production facility with a capacity of 300 tons of iodine per year is being considered.
The two enterprises engaged in extraction of iodine from salt solutions (natural waters and associated waters of oil and gas fields) are already being built by the local Khimiya Senagat company near the Okarem settlement, as well as near the Danatar settlement of the Balkan region of Turkmenistan.
In addition, the specialists of Turkmenkhimiya SC installed four pilot plants for the production of 90 tons of technical iodine per year on Chukurgui field of Balkan region.
At the same time, the wells for the extraction of iodine-containing water are being drilled on this field by efforts of the units of Turkmengeologia State Corporation. As soon as in December, after the completion of commissioning work, the extractive equipment will be put into operation.
It is also planned to expand the production of the rare element at the Balkanabat enterprise, the message says. The Turkmenkhimiya SC plans to build here new extraction facilities together with divisions of the Ministry of Industry.
