The production of milk and dairy products, according to the results of 2018, may exceed 2.05 million tons in Azerbaijan, the Director of the Agrarian Research Center under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Parviz Hajiyev told Trend.
In 2017, Azerbaijan produced two million tons of milk and dairy products, and in 2016 this figure was 1.9 million tons, Hajiyev noted.
"In 2017, 16,000 tons of milk and dairy products were exported from Azerbaijan to Georgia and Iran, while three years ago, exports did not exceed 5,000 tons. The figures have tripled since 2016," he added.
At the same time, he mentioned that imports of dairy products into the country have declined.
"The import volume of dairy products in 2015 amounted to 3,666 tons, in 2016 - 2,888 tons, and in 2017 - 2,444 tons," the director said.
Hajiyev also noted that as a result of an increase in the production of dairy products, domestic demand is presently 80 percent supported by local products.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in January-September, the country produced 1.551 million tons of milk, which increased by 1.8 percent compared to the same period of 2017.
