Uzbekistan joined the International Kyoto 1973 Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures, Trend reports referring to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of Uzbekistan.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 21 signed a law on Uzbekistan's accession to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures. The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on December 4 and approved by the Senate on December 19.
According to the law, Uzbekistan accepts all the provisions and chapters of the Kyoto Convention, except for chapter 3 (Cabotage transportation of goods) of special annex E (Transit).
The provisions of the Kyoto Convention were developed by the World Customs Organization in the form of recommendatory standards. Among the CIS countries, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine have previously joined the convention.
It was noted during the discussion of the law in the Senate that the document is aimed at stimulating Uzbekistan’s foreign trade by simplifying and bringing customs legislation and procedures of Uzbekistan in line with the provisions of the Kyoto Convention.
In addition, it was stressed that Uzbekistan's accession to the convention should have a positive impact on the country's integration into the world economy, in particular, its entry into the World Trade Organization.
