Azerbaijan can establish a new structure monitoring the safe use of gas by consumers, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) informed Trend on Friday.
Transportation and distribution of gas in Azerbaijan is implemented of SOCAR.
According to the source, the Azeriqaz production association is currently monitoring the natural gas infrastructure and devices for consumers, but added to the large volume of work Azeriqaz has to deal with, controlling consumer performance is a big job.
If created, the new structure will enable monitoring and inspection of the gas infrastructure, deal with security issues and deployment of gas appliances and checking system to ensure the withdrawal of products of combustion gas.
"This is an important and topical issue at the moment. Consumer safety and prevention of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning cases is extremely important for Azeriqaz. Therefore, the question of the possibility of creating a separate structure remains on the agenda," the source informed.
According to him, with the establishment of this structure, responsibilities of Azeriqaz will end after the consumer receives gas through the meter. Responsibility for further processes will lie with the new department. As mentioned by the source, this practice is used in Turkey and Germany.
The possibility of establishing the aforementioned body is a subject for discussion between SOCAR and the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan as well as within other relevant institutions. It is possible that the new structure will report to the Ministry of Industry and Energy.
