Construction of Phase 2 of the Kharg Petrochemical Company's plant on the Kharg island of Iran's southern Bushehr province has been completed by 30 percent, Gulamreza Amir Shagagi, executive director of the Kharg Petrochemical Company, said.
Shagagi made the remark on the sidelines of the 31st meeting of the directors of the petrochemical companies in Mashhad city of Iran's Razavi Khorasan province, Trend reports referring to NIPNA.
“One of the problems with the second phase of the methanol production plant is the provision with fuel after commissioning,” the executive director said.
“Taking into account the construction of natural gas liquids (NGL) plant on the Kharg island, an agreement on fuel provision was signed with National Iranian Gas Company,” Shagagi added.
“The equipment, compressors, generators were purchased and brought to the plant,” the executive director said.
“About 400 million euros will be spent on upgrading the second phase of the Kharg methanol plant. Some 1.4 million tons of products may be produced a year after the commissioning of the plant," Shagagi added.
“A warehouse was built in Kharg to store about 240,000 tons of methanol, and a 60-kilometer-long pipeline is planned to be connected to the Iranian gas network in Bushehr," the executive director said.
Shagagi said that the pipeline’s 26 kilometers will be laid offshore, while the rest part will be laid onshore.
The executive director noted that about 64 million euros will be required to build the pipeline.
"The operations related to the pipeline construction have been launched and the pipeline is expected to be laid during the next three months," Shagagi said.
Presently, Kharg Petrochemical Company can produce 1.1 million tons of methanol, propane, butane, pentane and sulfur.
