Iran has acquired the technology to convert methane gas into methanol, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for Petrochemical Affairs and Executive Director of Iran's National Petrochemical Company Behzad Mohammadi said.
Mohammadi made the remark at the ceremony of commissioning the second phase of Takht-E-Jamshid Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr district of Iran’s south-western Khuzestan province, Trend reports referring to NIPNA.
“For this purpose, a plant is being built to convert methane gas into methanol and propylene into polypropylene in Iran’s western Kermanshah province,” the deputy oil minister said. “The investments worth about $550 million were made in the plant.”
“Presently, 23 million tons of products are produced in the petrochemical sector in Iran,” Mohammadi said. “The production in the sector is expected to increase by 55 million tons in 2026.”
The production volume of 66 million tons will increase up to 100 million tons in Iran’s petrochemical sector in 2022, and revenues from $17 billion up to $25 billion.
The production volume will reach 133 million tons in Iran’s petrochemical sector, and revenues will reach $37 billion as a result of implementing 28 projects by 2026.
The second phase of the Takht-E-Jamshid Petrochemical Company was commissioned in Mahshahr district of Iran’s south-western Khuzestan province on Jan. 14. Some 55,000 tons of polybutadiene rubber will be produced annually at the second phase.
