BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. Electricity generation in Azerbaijan amounted to over 9.85 billion kWh from January through April 2023, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan told Trend.
The volume of electricity generated in the country increased by 6.5 percent, or by 600.3 million kWh year-on-year.
According to the ministry, during the reporting period, thermal power plants (TPPs) of Azerbaijan's electricity generation grew by 633.2 million kWh compared to the specified period last year - up to 9.26 billion kWh. Electricity generation at HPPs (hydropower plants) grew by 30.8 million kWh to 462 million kWh.
According to other energy sources, electricity generation reached 124 million kWh with a decrease of 2.1 million kWh.
In turn, wind power plants (WPPs) of the country generated 21.4 million kWh of electricity in the reporting period of this year, solar power plants (SPPs) - 19.1 million kWh, and TPPs of the incineration plant for solid wastes - 83.5 million kWh of electricity.
Moreover, during the accounting period, the electricity production of AzerEnergy OJSC amounted to over 8.89 billion kWh (8.459 billion kWh - at TPPs, 433.1 million kWh - at HPPs), the State Energy Service of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic - 128.95 million kWh (85.91 million kWh - at TPPs, 25.69 million kWh - at HPPs, and 17.35 million kWh - at SPPs).
The WPPs of Azerishig JSC produced 16.4 million kWh of electricity from January through April 2023.
Over 28.988 billion kWh of electricity was produced in 2022 in the country with an increase of 4 percent. Exports accounted for more than 3 billion kWh of electricity, while imports amounted to 137.1 million kWh.
