BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4. Iran plans to boost its petrochemical production capacity from 92 million tons per year to 130 million tons annually by 2029, CEO of National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Morteza Shah-Mirzaei said, Trend reports.
The CEO noted that Iran’s petrochemical industry has grown significantly since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, when it was only 1.5 million tons per year.
He added that Iran’s long-term goal is to reach 180 million tons per year by 2033.
According to Shah-Mirzaei, Iran has 72 active petrochemical plants and exports $16 billion worth of petrochemical products per year. More than 110 new petrochemical plants are under construction in various parts of the country.
By the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2024), Iran’s petrochemical production capacity is estimated to reach 95 million tons.
Meanwhile, Iran produced more than 35 million tons of various petrochemical products in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). The figure is expected to reach approximately 78 million tons by the end of the year.
