BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. The volume of approved non-sovereign operations in Azerbaijan totaled $2.6 billion from 2008 to 2024, Trend reports via the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
According to the report, the main investors were the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with $848 million, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with $791 million, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with $209 million, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with $170 million. Key sectors included energy ($714 million) and finance ($517 million).
The EDB noted that the average annual financing volume in Azerbaijan increased 2.6 times — from $108 million in 2008–2010 to $280 million in 2022–2024.
In the South Caucasus region, which includes Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, the total approved non-sovereign financing by international financial institutions (IFIs) reached $11.3 billion over 2008–2024.
“The South Caucasus’ share of overall non-sovereign IFI operations in the Eurasian region rose from 9% in 2008–2010 to 20% in 2022–2024. Average financing in the region increased from $0.4 billion to $1.1 billion. The main sectors align with IFI priorities in Central Asia — energy and finance. However, investment dynamics in the South Caucasus remain lower than in Central Asia, likely due to differences in economic scale, smaller investment potential, and weaker regional connectivity,” the report said.
