Vegetable production in Uzbekistan from January through March 2021 increased by five times compared to the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
According to the committee, 65,721 tons of vegetables were grown in Uzbekistan during the reporting period.
It is noted that the largest share of vegetables was grown by dekhkan (family) farms amounting to 67.3 percent, while organizations engaged in agricultural activities accounted for 20.8 percent. The share of private farms amounted only to 11.9 percent.
In the structure of regions, significant growth was noted in the Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions, which managed to grow 19,346 tons and 13,808 tons of vegetables, respectively.
The five leaders, albeit with a significant lag behind the first two regions, included Bukhara - 4,994 tons, Andijan - 3,809 tons and Kashkadarya - 3,202 tons regions.
At the same time, less than a thousand tons of vegetables were grown in the Karakalpakstan Republic - 617 tons- and the Jizzakh region - 984 tons.
Earlier the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan reported that the volume of production of agricultural, forestry, and fish products in the Republic for the 1Q2021 amounted to 29.9 trillion soums ($2.8 billion), increasing by 3.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the ministry, the share of dekhkan (family) farms in agricultural production amounted to 88.9 percent (an increase of 3.1 percent), farms 7.1 percent (3.6 percent), and organizations engaged in agricultural activities is 4 percent (3.3 percent).
At the same time, the share of agricultural products in the gross structure of agriculture accounted for 5.9 percent, livestock products - 88 percent, hunting, forestry, and fishing - 6.1 percent.
