BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. The transit from Shahid Rajaee Port of Hormozgan Province, located in the south of Iran, increased by 217 percent during six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year, Director General of İran's Ports and Maritime Administration of Hormozgan Province Hossein Abbasnejad told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, more than 300,000 tons of cargo were transported through Shahid Rajaee port during the six months.
Abbasnejad noted that 42.3 million tons of products were loaded and unloaded in Shahid Rajaee port during the six months. This is an increase of 36 percent compared to the same period last year. A total of 27.9 million tons of non-oil products and 13.3 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded at this port.
He added that during the six months, about 54.8 million tons of oil and non-oil products were loaded and unloaded in the ports of Hormozgan province. This figure increased by 47 percent compared to the same period last year.
The official stated that about 37.9 million tons of non-oil products and 16.9 million tons of oil and oil products were loaded and unloaded in the ports of Hormozgan province during six months.
"A total of 1.36 million TEU of containers were loaded and unloaded in the ports of Hormozgan province during six months. This is 88 percent more than in the same period last year," he said.
To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is undertaking steps to increase port throughput capacity by 500 million tons.
