BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. Approximately 136 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in Iran's ports during seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Ports and Maritime Organization shows that the volume of shipped cargo amounted to 89.1 million tons, and the volume of unloaded cargo was 46.5 million tons.
Iran's ports loaded and unloaded more than 62.3 million tons of crude oil and oil products during the seven-month period, according to the report. During the mentioned period, Iran's ports loaded and unloaded 73.2 million tons of non-oil products.
The report states that the ports loaded and unloaded 1.83 million TEU containers during the specified period. This represents an increase of 16 percent compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023).
Meanwhile, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
In the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Iranian-owned ports loaded and unloaded about 237 million tons of cargo. In the last Iranian year, the volume of cargo loading and unloading at Iranian ports increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
