Iran reveals cargo handling volumes at Imam Khomeini Port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 5. The volume of loading and unloading operations at Imam Khomeini Port of Khuzestan Province in southwestern Iran amounted to 31.8 million tons during eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 2024), director general of the Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Khuzestan Province Abu Talib Gerayloo said, Trend reports.

According to him, 12.2 million tons of essential products (rice, barley, animal feed, vegetable oil, and others) were imported to the country via Imam Khomeini Port during the eight months. This is 20 percent more than the same period last year (from March 21 through November 21, 2023).

Gerayloo added that during the eight months, 61,700 tons of containerized cargo was loaded and unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port. This is 47 percent more than the same period last year.

The official noted that about 14.4 million tons of oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port during the mentioned period. This is 6 percent more than the same period last year.

“Three million tons of cargo were transported through Imam Khomeini Port during the eight months. This is 35 percent more than in the same period last year,” he noted.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the throughput capacity of ports up to 500 million tons.
