BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. The volume of handling operations at Shahid Bahonar Port of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran increased by 35 percent during nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through December 21, 2023), the director of Eastern Ports and Maritime Administration of Hormozgan Province Hamidreza Mohammad Hosseini told reporters, Trend reports.
According to him, 1.89 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Shahid Bahonar port during the nine months.
Mohammad Hosseini pointed out that 1.54 million tons of handling cargo in the mentioned volume were non-oil products. This is 58 percent more than the same period last year.
The official stated that 1.22 million tons of cargo were exported through Shahid Bahonar Port during the nine months. This is 46 percent more than the same period last year.
He added that 39,600 TEU containers were loaded and unloaded at Shahid Bahonar Port during the nine months. The number of loaded and unloaded TEU containers at the port is 98 percent more than in the same period last year.
“As many as 2,880 vessels arrived at the port of Shahid Bahonar during nine months, of which 323 vessels had a capacity of more than 1,000 tons and 2,557 with a capacity of less than 1,000 tons,” he noted.
To note, Shahid Bahonar port can load and unload 2.5 million tons of cargo per year, and ships with a capacity of 40,000 tons can dock at the port.
