BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Over the course of the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024, through February 18, 2025), 15 oil and gas wells have been drilled and improved throughout four Iranian provinces: Razavi Khorasan, Khuzestan, Ilam, and Hormozgan, Abdulkarim Alimohammadi, Deputy CEO of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), told reporters, Trend reports.
According to Alimohammadi, a total of 31,000 meters of drilling work has been carried out in these wells. He further stated that currently, 14 drilling rigs are actively conducting operations across the four provinces.
"Three drilling rigs are working at the Kangiran and Tus oil fields in Razavi Khorasan, two at the Khar Teng oil field in Bushehr, and one at the Tang-Bijar field in Ilam. Nine wells have been enhanced over the past 11 months in these fields," he explained.
Alimohammadi also mentioned that the company is performing drilling operations at two oil fields, Yadavaran and South Azadegan, with two rigs at each field. Six wells at Yadavaran and ten at South Azadegan will undergo drilling.
The company official added that, in the operating zone of Pars Oil and Gas Company, drilling operations are taking place at Kish oil field using two rigs to drill 13 wells. The drilling of the ninth well is expected to be completed by the end of the current year, with the remaining four wells set to be completed in the first half of next year.
Currently, Iran has 74 active oil fields and 22 gas fields. There are 37 oil fields operating under the Southern Oil Zones National Company of Iran, 14 under the Central Oil Zones Company of Iran, 5 under the Arvandan Oil and Gas Production Company, and 18 under the Offshore Oil Company. Additionally, there are 5 gas fields operating under the Southern Oil Zones National Company of Iran, 13 under the Central Oil Zones Company, 1 under the Pars Oil and Gas Company, and 3 under the Offshore Oil Company.
Iran's total hydrocarbon reserves amount to 1.2 trillion barrels. With existing technology and equipment, Iran can extract 340 billion barrels, but it is only utilizing about 30 percent of its reserves, with 70 percent remaining untapped underground.
