BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 21. Tea farmers in Iran have received 6.14 trillion rials (about $9.43 million) in payments for green tea leaves purchased by the government since April 21, 2025, said Habib Jahansaz, the head of the Iran Tea Organization (ITO), Trend reports.
Jahansaz articulated that throughout the specified timeframe,
regulatory bodies acquired 51,700 metric tons of Camellia sinensis
foliage from cultivators, appraised at approximately 12.1 trillion
rials (circa $18.6 million). The outstanding balance, quantified at
5.96 trillion rials (approximately $9.17 million), is slated for
disbursement in the imminent timeframe, he elaborated.
He also observed that 43,100 tons, representing 83 percent of the
acquired foliage, were classified as first-grade, whereas 8,560
tons, accounting for 17 percent, fell into the second-grade
category.
During the preceding Iranian fiscal cycle (spanning from March 20,
2024, to March 20, 2025), tea cultivation operations across an
expansive 22,000 hectares yielded a total output of 29,000 tons of
desiccated tea, generating a substantial economic valuation of 25
trillion rials (approximately $43 million). At present, the expanse
of Iran's tea cultivation spans approximately 22,000 hectares, with
regulatory bodies anticipating the procurement of 140,000 metric
tons of tea foliage from agricultural producers throughout the
ongoing Iranian fiscal year.
