Iran starting to use high-speed container x-ray inspection systems, Masoud Karbasian, head of the Islamic Republic Customs Administration, said.
One such system is capable to scan 1500 trucks per day, Karbasian said, IRIB news agency reported May 16.
He further said that 19 container x-ray scanners will be added to the country’s customs inspection checkpoints by March 2018, bringing the total number of x-Ray machines across different borders to 31.
The new scanners will be used in Bazargan, Dogharoun and Shahid Rajaee Port customs, Karbasian said.
The customs administration has also signed contracts with defense ministry and nuclear energy organization for manufacturing the x-ray systems, he said.
Karbasian added that his organization plans to use private sector capabilities as well.
By improving passing time through customs, Iran is seeking to facilitate trade factors throughout the country. Furthermore, by automating and mechanizing the equipment, the Iranian government is seeking to crack down on trafficking of goods and narcotics.
