The number of e-health cards, issued by the Azerbaijani Healthcare Ministry, increased by 0.85 percent in the first quarter of 2014, the ministry's 'Health Informatization Center' told Trend on March 31.
The e-health cards are produced at the Public Health and Reforms Center of the Healthcare Ministry, and then they are given free of charge to the parents of newborn babies as well as to the patients via the polyclinics.
The number of issued e-cards increased by 6,773 and reached 797,378, according to the center.
Aside from that, some 401 cards were issued in January-March to the patients who receive medicine free of charge. The number of cards issued to this category of patients reached 61,942.
Also, some 13,027 cards were issued to the patients undergoing medical examination. This category of patients in total received 209,198 cards.
The e-health cards include information about the cardholder's identity, health and social insurance, and other data. This information is stored in a single database of medical facilities through a local network, which allows rapidly exchanging the information.
To date, all maternity hospitals, maternity departments of hospitals and children's hospitals, which are subordinates of the Healthcare Ministry, are connected to this system.
