BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 19. The total number of hired workers in Azerbaijan grew by 42,700 people (2.46 percent) as of December 1, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.
Data obtained by Trend from the country's State Statistical Committee shows that this figure amounted to 1.77 million people, including 884,400 people in the public sector of the economy and 890,900 people in the private sector.
Of the total number of employed citizens, 18.5 percent work in education, 18.4 percent in trade and vehicle repair, and 8.5 percent in health care and social services.

To note, according to preliminary data, the average monthly nominal wage of salaried employees in Azerbaijan from January through November 2024 increased by eight percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 996.8 manat ($586.3).
The average monthly nominal wage was higher in the mining industry, financial and insurance activities, information and communication, and scientific and technical activities.
