BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 21. The construction of a new bridge over the Araz River in the Aghband-Kelaleh region, connecting Iran and Azerbaijan, is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou told Trend.
He underlined that about 63 percent of the construction has already been finished,
Damirchilu stated that work is now underway to expand the highway in the Jolfa direction on the Iranian side. Several tunnels are planned as part of the highway extension from Kelaleh to Jolfa.
“This highway is being built with Iran’s own funds. It will allow Azerbaijani citizens to travel more easily and safely between Nakhchivan and the rest of Azerbaijan,” Demirchilou said.
A road bridge 374 meters long and 27.6 meters wide is being built across the Araz River between Iran and Azerbaijan. It will consist of four lanes, two safety lanes, and a dividing strip. Sidewalks 2.8 meters wide will be built on each side of the bridge.
