The first stage of large-scale renovation of the smelting workshop №6 of Kazakhstan's Aksu Ferroalloys Plant, which is a member of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), has been completed, Trend reports with reference to the press office of ERG.
Thus, within the first stage of renovation, a new innovative furnace №64 was launched, the investments into reconstruction of which exceeded $70 million. Following the launch of the furnace, the manufacturing of ferrochrome will be increased by 87 percent in 2024 compared to 2018.
The reconstruction of the workshop №6, largest melting subdivision of Aksu Ferroalloys Plant, is a part of the large-scale renovation of the entire manufacturing venture. The project was launched in 2014 with basic engineering work carried out by Tenova Pyromet South African company. The company also was the main supplier of the equipment.
The renovation project includes another three furnaces and will be completed in 2024.
“Taking into consideration the output of three furnaces, the plant, which has manufactured 269,000 metric tons of ferrochrome in 2018, will increase the production volume to 503,000 metric tons in 2024. Furthermore, the electricity consumption will be decreased by 20 percent,” the report said.
According to ERG, the furnace №64 was completely dismantled and a new furnace was built in its place. Now absolutely new technology is being used here, which allows to manufacture more with less specific power energy consumption.
"In addition, the new furnace is distinguished by increased ecology protection: it has two modern gas cleaners. Furthermore, the charge will be heated in advance, which will minimize the risk of emergency situations,” the report said.
