Chinese Sinopharm Group company proposed to test new coronavirus vaccines in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Dunyo News Agency.
It became known during the meeting of Uzbek Ambassador to China Bakhtiyor Saidov and CEO of Sinopharm Group Liu Jingzhen.
The Chinese side informed that two phases of clinical trials of two coronavirus vaccines have been successfully conducted so far. The vaccines were developed by one of the Sinopharm Group units, China National Biotec Group.
The inactivated vaccine has a duration of two or more years after injection. To date, over 50,000 people have been vaccinated in China. For the purpose, construction of the second major plant in Beijing was completed in July 2020, doubling the production capacity to 200 million doses per year. The first plant was built in the city of Wuhan.
According to Liu Jingzhen, the third final phase of clinical trials in China has recently began. Simultaneously, the tests will be conducted in the UAE as part of the interaction in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, which will involve about 15,000 people. With this in mind, the head of the Chinese corporation proposed to conduct similar trials in Uzbekistan.
During the negotiations, an agreement was reached on strengthening interaction in the fight against COVID-19 and cooperation in pharmaceutical sphere.
The Chinese company expressed willingness to be an investment partner for a number of promising joint projects in pharmaceutical industrial zones established in Uzbekistan in recent years.
Established in 1998, Sinopharm Group is the largest pharmaceutical company in China, which owns more than 1,400 subsidiaries with more than 200,000 employees. In 2019, its total revenue was almost $72 billion.
