About 90 percent of Kazakhstan’s imports of green vegetables come from Uzbekistan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said, assessing the potential of trade cooperation with Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to eurasia.expert portal.
The above issue was mentioned by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at an expanded meeting of the government of the republic on January 26. The leader of Kazakhstan explained how the new international trade project will affect trade in Central Asia.
“Today, food security has become a priority for Kazakhstan,” Tokayev said, adding that its solution is impossible without highly productive agriculture and competitive processing industries.
According to him, the leadership of Kazakhstan needs to accelerate the launch of the National Distribution System, which includes the construction of 24 wholesale distribution centers.
“Today, about 90 percent of imports of green vegetables come from Uzbekistan. In addition, almost all of Uzbekistan’s trade with Russia also goes through Kazakhstan,” Tokayev said, recalling that in this regard, the project of the International Center for Trade and Economic Cooperation “Central Asia” was initiated.
Earlier, the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, Bakhyt Sultanov, announced that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan intend to enter foreign markets together. To this end, the countries initiated the creation of the International Center for Trade and Economic Cooperation, which should ensure the transit of goods according to the principle of the "green corridor".
