Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Zagjaneh and his Omani counterpart, Mohammed Hamad al-Rumhi, have discussed exporting the Islamic republic's natural gas to global markets after liquefying at Oman's LNG plants.
Oman is an observe member of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and Mohammed Hamad al-Rumhi is in Tehran to attend the third summit of the member states of the GECF on November 23, IRNA news agency reported.
According to the report about 23 percent of the capacity of Oman's LNG installations is now vacant.
Iran has already signed a MoU with Oman to deliver 10 billion cubic meters per annum (mcm/a) of gas through an underwater pipeline to that country.
The onshore part stretches from Iran's city of Rudan for 200 kilometers to Kuhmobarak and the project is planned to be commenced in 2016-2017.
Iran eyes exporting further gas to Oman to be liquefied and be exported to global markets, especially Europe.
Iran has a 50-percent developed LNG plant, with 10.5 million tons (or above 14 billion cubic meters natural gas) of production capacity annually, which is expected to become operational by 2019.
