BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 9. Investors have expressed interest in constructing a subway system in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

The announcement was made by Bishkek city mayor Aibek Junushaliev during a session of the Kyrgyz Parliament.

“A meeting will take place next Friday where the investors will present their proposals. If their suggestions are acceptable, we are ready to start,” the mayor stated.

During the meeting, it was brought to light that the populations of Osh and Bishkek are growing by leaps and bounds, with the capital's numbers crossing the 2 million mark, making the call for a metro system more urgent than ever.

Currently, in Central Asia, it's a tale of two nations, as only Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have taken the plunge into the underground world of subway systems. In Tajikistan, work is underway to explore the feasibility of building a metro in Dushanbe, funded by South Korea's Export-Import Bank.
