BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 19. A new 110/35 kV high-voltage substation named Kok-Art has been officially launched in the village of Taran-Bazar, Suzak district, in Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad region, Trend reports via the country's Ministry of Energy.
The substation was specifically built to supply electricity for the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, a major infrastructure project aligned with the ancient Silk Road trade route.
Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, took part in the opening ceremony during his working visit to the region. The facility was constructed by the China Railway Construction Corporation and forms an essential part of the energy infrastructure needed to support the railway’s development.
Construction began in April and was completed ahead of schedule. The project was implemented through a cooperation agreement between National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan Company and the China-Kyrgyz Railway Construction Corporation. The necessary power supply was provided by the Jalal-Abad Electric Network Enterprise.
Two 35 kV transmission lines extend from the Kok-Art substation: the 11-kilometer Kalmak-Kyrchyn line and the 35-kilometer Sary-Kyr line, which connects to the Kazarman line.
According to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, the total length of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project is 532.53 km. The plan includes the construction of 20 railway stations (two of which are planned for future development), including 2 border stations, 1 transshipment station, 4 intermediate stations, and 13 passing loops. The project also involves building 48 bridges with a total length of 16.06 km and 27 tunnels totaling 103.63 km. The combined length of bridges and tunnels is 119.69 km, which accounts for 39.3 percent of the total railway length.
On December 27, 2024, in Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad a ceremonial event was held to mark the official start of construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
