The North Kazakhstan region plans to increase the acreage of soybeans, Trend reports via Kazakh media.
"Soy export is in demand. Its price is about 150,000 tenge per ton. This year we will receive the seeds and next year we will increase the acreage of soybeans to 150,000 hectares. This needs to be tested at large enterprises," said the governor of the region Kumar Aksakalov at a meeting of the region’s administration.
He added that it will be a good project on the way to diversification.
"We will reduce the acreage of cereals and introduce highly profitable, export-oriented crops," Aksakalov said.
It should be noted that the North Kazakhstan region began to grow soybeans in 2017, on an area of 4,900 hectares. Farmers were gradually increasing the cultivated area of the crop.
Last year the North Kazakhstan growers harvested 908,000 tons of oilseeds in weight after processing. Yields of oilseeds was 9.6 centners per hectare (97.8 percent).
