This year, Turkmenistan plans to produce 2,300 tons of silkworm cocoons, said Esenmyrat Orazgeldiev, Deputy Prime Minister at a meeting of the government of Turkmenistan, Trend reports via Turkmen media.
In accordance with the plan Ahal region will produce 300 tons of cocoons, the Balkan region - 50 tons, Dashoguz region 500 tons, the Lebap region - 1,010 tons, and the Mary region - 440 tons.
Last year, Turkmen farmers handed over more than 2,100 tons of cocoons.
Sericulture is one of the leading branches of the local agricultural industry and is widespread almost all around Turkmenistan. Meanwhile, more than half of the cocoon harvesting is accounted for Turkmenistan’s Lebap region.
One of the leading enterprises of the sericulture industry of Turkmenistan is the Grenage Plant in Turkmenabat, the Ashgabat Silk Factory and the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association.
Turkmenistan's agricultural sector receives targeted support from the government. The entire agro-industrial sector's production infrastructure is being re-equipped and modernized.
Farmers, private entrepreneurs, and other agricultural producers can also benefit from preferential bank loans. Farmers receive mineral fertilizers, high-quality seeds, and chemical plant protection products at preferential prices.
