All authorities must work to ensure that Iran's non-oil exports reach $41 billion in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said, Trend reports citing official website of the First VP.
The first vice president noted that there is no more important issue for Iran's economic development this year than the increase in exports of non-oil products.
Jahangiri added that if Iran intends to increase production, maintain existing employment, and provide the foreign exchange needed for raw material imports, it must increase non-oil exports.
According to him, there are a number of problems in Iran, including US sanctions against the country and the spread of the coronavirus. However, Iran has great potential to overcome these problems.
"During the spread of the coronavirus, it became clear that Iran has great potential in the area of startups. Thus, in addition to meeting its needs in health and medical supplies, Iran began to export these products to a number of countries within four months," said VP.
Iran exported 9.17 million tons of products worth $2.64 billion in two months, from March 20 through May 20, 2020. During this period, Iran imported 3.87 million tons of products worth $3.11 billion.
Iran exported 133 million tons of products worth $41.3 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). Iran also imported 35.3 million tons of products worth $43.7 billion last year.
