Turkmenistan's Halkbank experiences surge in bank card issuance

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 27. The Turkmenistan's Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank issued 675,118 bank cards, at the beginning of April this year, Trend reports.

Data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan show that this figure is almost 10 percent more than compared to the same date last year, when the number of bank cards amounted to 614,705 units.

The number of issued bank cards in Ashgabat city on the specified date amounted to 240,555 units, which is almost eight percent more than at the beginning of April 2023, when it amounted to 223,159 units.

The Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank has distributed its cards across the regions as follows: 188,164 units in the Lebap region, 102,151 units in the Mary region, 51,743 units in the Ahal region, 51,280 units in the Dashoguz region, 40,395 units in the Balkan region and 830 units in Arkadag city.

The total number of bank cards issued by the Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank on the specified date is 12 percent of the total number of cards issued in Turkmenistan, which is over 5.64 million units.

Meanwhile, the development of the banking sector in Turkmenistan has a significant impact on the economic development of the country, and in this context, the role of bank cards is becoming increasingly important.

Strategic investments and governmental support play pivotal roles in the modernization of banking services, notably in the introduction and dissemination of bank cards.
