BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. US, Turkish, and Italian companies are preparing studies for Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy on the upcoming integration of renewable energy into the common power grid, Director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) under the Ministry of Energy Javid Abdullayev told reporters, Trend reports.
“Tetra Tech (US), EPRA (Türkiye), and CESI (Italy) are conducting an analysis of Azerbaijan’s power grid capacity to receive electricity from renewable sources,” Abdullayev said.
Azerbaijan's power grid is expected to accommodate 2 GW of renewable energy by 2027, necessitating the grid modernization.
Abdullayev mentioned that work is currently underway on special programs to strengthen the country's power grid and integrate maximum volumes of renewable energy.
By 2030, renewable energy is expected to account for 35 percent of Azerbaijan's total energy balance.
The AREA director reminded that, based on several Cabinet of Ministers' decisions, the total area allocated for renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan will be 4,500 hectares.
Additionally, he stressed that the technical potential for renewable energy in Azerbaijan amounts to 135 GW on land and 157 GW at sea, with an economic potential of 27 GW, including three GW of wind energy, 23 GW of solar energy, 380 MW of bioenergy, and 520 MW of mountain river energy.
