DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 14. Production in the economic sectors, including the social field, of Tajikistan’s Sughd region exceeded 35 billion somoni ($3.2 billion) in 2023, which is a 72-fold increase compared to the year 2000, Trend reports.

President Emomali Rahmon made this statement at a celebration marking the 33rd anniversary of the country's independence in Khujand city. He noted that industrial production alone had increased 15 times during this period.

Looking ahead to the 35th anniversary of state independence on September 9, 2026, plans include the construction of over 700 new industrial enterprises and workshops in the region, along with the creation of more than 14,000 new jobs, according to the president.

Furthermore, in 2024, 140 new industrial enterprises and workshops are set to open, with 106 already commencing operations in the first seven months of the year.

"During the period of independence, farmers in the Sughd region have made a significant contribution to the country’s food market by providing domestically produced goods, thus ensuring food security. In 2023, they increased agricultural production to 19 billion somoni ($1.7 billion), which is 7.3 times higher compared to 1991," Rahmon said.
