DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 16. In the Sughd region of Tajikistan, agricultural production reached 16.288 billion somoni ($1.5 billion) from January through September 2024, which is a 13 percent increase compared to the same period of 2023, Trend reports.
According to the regional administration, this year crops were sown over an area of 282,832 hectares.
During the reporting period, onion production amounted to 192,172 tons, potatoes to 457,006 tons, melons to 220,536 tons, and fruits to 203,671 tons. Other vegetable production in the region totaled 561,544 tons.
Compared to the same period in 2023, production of onions increased by 5.9 percent, potatoes by 9.5 percent, other vegetables by 6.4 percent, melons by 3.2 percent, and fruits by 1.9 percent.
Additionally, the region produced 219,799 tons of milk and 558.2 million eggs, as well as 1.530 tons of honey. Furthermore, as of October 1, 2024, 166 hectares of new orchards and vineyards have been established in the agricultural cooperatives of the region.
In 2023, the total agricultural output in Tajikistan reached 63.028 billion somoni (approximately $5.9 billion). This includes 43.36 billion somoni ($4.081 billion) from crop production and 19.662 billion somoni ($1.8 billion) from livestock production.
