DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 27. The trade turnover between Tajikistan's Sughd region and Uzbekistan reached $350 million in 2024, Trend reports.
This was announced during a meeting between the Chairman of the Sughd region, Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, and a delegation from the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized that there are significant resources and opportunities to further increase product exchange. Ahmadzoda informed the guests about the economic situation in the region and added that cooperation could be strengthened across various sectors, particularly in agriculture. One key area of focus was cotton cultivation and production, with both sides discussing the use of each other's expertise to benefit the industry.
The parties also exchanged views on the use of high-yielding seeds and new technologies for planting, cultivating, and harvesting cotton and explored future cooperation prospects in this field.
The foreign trade turnover of the Sughd region in the past year amounted to $3.305 billion, which is an 18.3 percent increase compared to 2023. Imports totaled $2.271 billion, showing a rise of $232.5 million, or 11.4 percent. Exports stood at $1.035 billion, with an increase of 36.8 percent or $278.2 million compared to the previous year.
In addition, Tajikistan's total foreign trade turnover in 2024 reached $8.95 billion in 2024, which is a 7.5 percent increase, or $626.1 million, compared to 2023. Exports amounted to $1.95 billion, a decrease of 20.5 percent or $501.4 million compared to the previous year. Imports, on the other hand, rose to $7.01 billion, an increase of 19.2 percent or $1.13 billion from 2023.
